Automotive Sweden is an independent non-profit organization. We spread knowledge of the Swedish automotive industry to national and international players to encourage co-operation and stimulate growth in the automotive industry.
Of the 300,000 cars sold in Sweden in 2011, 178 were electric. There are 4 million vehicles registered in Sweden, of which 300 are electric. There are 4,000 electric cars in Norway.
Germany, France and Denmark have invested heavily in becoming electric car nations. An electric car is just over SEK 200,000 more expensive than the equivalent gasoline version, which makes private purchasers hesitant. The super environment subsidy in Sweden is SEK 40,000 but is still too small to effect any great change. It is likely that rechargeable hybrids will lead the changeover in Sweden.
