New Chalmers lab
The Chalmers Virtual Development Laboratory is now open. Its objective is to strengthen collaboration between researchers and companies. Small companies gain access to equipment they lack themselves, while major companies gain the opportunity to test radical ideas that no longer fit in their slimmed-down development environments.
Anders Carlsson at Volvo Cars tells us that a company objective is to halve lead times for new cars by the year 2020, and that the key to achieving this is the increasing use of simulations in the development process. It will take a revolution for us to achieve our objective, and here in the laboratory we can be bold enough to test the crazier ideas and take the great strides necessary for true changes in business methods.
