Emissions in Europe by Manufacturer
Toyota cars released the lowest levels of CO2 in 2010, according to calculations based on 65 percent of cars sold within the EU. Toyota achieved 112g/km per car, followed by Fiat at 116 g, Citroën with 119, Peugeot 119, Seat 120 and Renault 121. Volvo cars managed 134 g and Saab 157.
The EU CO2 regulations were approved in 2007 and entail automakers' reducing their average emissions for cars sold within the EU to 130g/km. A further reduction of 10 g/km will be achieved through the use of low resistance tires, traffic planning and gear indicators in vehicles. The requirements are somewhat more generous in respect of heavy private cars, which must comply with a less steep reduction graph. The main regulation is for the 130g/km limit to apply across the board in the EU by 2015, while already applying to 65 percent of sales in 2012.
